I love Mexican and Latin food. I adore Cajun food, too but there really is nowhere to get it in Ohio. That's not the case in when it comes to Mexican. My husband, on the other hand, can take it or leave it. Since it's not something he enjoys, I don't push going out unless I am sure he would like the food. Like BOMBA and Paladar. I took a friend the first time and brought him back for our anniversary.
Monday he wanted to get a drink at a neighboorhood restaurant. But, it was closed. Since we were hungry and walking we decided to keep walking until we found something else. It took looking across the street. Our neighborhood has several options, but El Tango was one that wasn't even on the radar until he said, "let's get a taco!"
We were greeted by the owner and chef who took our order. We had the place to ourselves as we waited for our drinks to arrive.
Margaritas and chips are a must at most Mexican restaurants and El Tango didn't disappoint. I had a traditional lime which was heavy on the tequila and the hubs had passion fruit. I would like to go back and try the jalapeno next!
The chips came with four different types of salsa. My favorite was a cilantro and pineapple salsa that I threw on my burrito when we ran out of chips. I also enjoyed a cinnamon one that I didn't think I would have liked as much as I did. One was a lovely creme one and a traditional. They were all pretty appetizing.
I would go back just for margaritas and chips alone.
The hubs got two tacos that were quite large and he devoured. I had an avocado, lime, and chicken burrito. I had asked for no tortilla, but glad that he didn't listen. Apparently, he makes those himself and it was very tasty.
As we ate and drank, we caught up on the day and weekend. Since he has been working nights and the past weekend, this was the first time in two weeks that we really sat together and just be.
He may not have appreciated me staging a photo of us clinking glasses. He should just no better by now.
When I decided to share our meal, I googled the restaurant hoping to find out the story of the restaurant or a website. What I found was a lot of mixed reviews.
Dinners either really love this pace or hate it. I had planned to host a get together there and I am so on the fence now. Ugh! I hate reading reviews. Most of the bad reviews are a few years old so maybe the owner learned from past mistakes.
The food was really good and worth the risk.
