Being able to get up and go is one of the best parts of having older kids. Grabbing a day bag and heading out the door is fantastic! And, day trips have become a big part of our family life.
Recently, we were invited to spend the day at
Great Wolf Lodge in Sandusky, Ohio!
Nestled about an hour from Cleveland is a Northwoods-themed resort waterpark with a game arcade and Scooops Kid Spa.
The waterpark boost 33,000 square feet of indoor aquatic fun! A four-story treehouse water fort with a giant tipping bucket, a hot tub, a lazy river, five splash and play pools, and nine slides.
When the kids want to dry off there is the MagiQuest interactive scavenger hunt game and Cub Club children's activities.
The 271 room resort has a full-service restaurant, four smaller food options including Dunkin Doughnuts and two gift shops. In addition, there are meeting rooms with a full-service event planning.
Pweh! That's a lot!
Overnight Accommodations
While we didn't stay the night this time, we did get to tour the rooms.Read about our overnight stay at Great Wolf Lodge
The photos just don't do the rooms justice. They are g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s.
The first room we visited was the Royal Bear Suite with a king bed, a queen bed, and a full-size sofa sleeper. This room also has a kitchenette with an eating area.
Next up we got to tour the Kid Cabin Suite which has a king bed plus a cabin for the kids that sleeps three. One bunk bed and a twin. There's also a TV for the kids in the cabin.
When we visited, we stayed in a room like this for the five of us. It was so nice not having to share a bed with the kids.
To my son's delight, we also got to peak into the Loft Fireplace Suite that has three queen beds and a full-size sofa sleeper with a lofted bedroom.
This suite is beautiful and I wouldn't mind getting it just for the five of us even though it can sleep eight.
Dry Fun at Great Wolf
The main attraction is the waterpark, but the dry activities are pretty awesome, too.
The kids each got a Paw Pass which gives them One MagiQuest game and a wand, a 12 oz. candy cup of jelly beans, ane pair of Great Wolf Lodge goggles, a Creation Station animal (outfit not included), a Leather Treaty wristband, a Glitz Glitter Tattoo, and aPaw Points game card loaded with $5 for gameplay.
The MagiQuest game kept them busy for the good part of the morning. And, when we return the kids can bring their wands to play again for a fee. If we get another Paw Pass, they can upgrade their wands. If you buy the pass prior to your stay - you save money!

The waterpark!
The biggest reason to go is the waterpark. While Great Wolf is on the smaller side compared to other parks in the area, it is why I love coming here.
We had a great time spending the day. We got to the resort at 9:30 AM checked in and the kids did the quest, played in the arcade, and created their stuffed animal all before lunch. Thank goodness for Dunkin coffee!
The afternoon we played in the park. When I wanted to relax I did and when I wanted to get wet with the kids, I did. It was wonderful.
When it was time to go - we got a quick bite as we were leaving and we were home before I knew it. The kids slept the entire way home.
