My Father's Day Tribute: I'm One Lucky Lady

I'm one lucky lady. Or, so I am told when people meet my family.

The truth is, I am.

And, I know it.

As we head into Father's Day weekend, I can't help but think of my dad. I also can't help but compare him to my babies' daddy.

My dad was not involved in our school life. Honestly, he didn't take much notice in our daily lives. His job was to go to work. Since I wasn't interested in golf, I was not included in his weekly trips to the golf course. My dad was certainly not going to our school to volunteer.

My man, however, is at the kids' school weekly. He participates with the PTA and was recently recognized by the citywide council as one of this year's good guys.

PTA Good Guy

I wish I was one of those women who stress cleaned instead of eating or drinking. But, he doesn't harp on me about my lack of housecleaning skills. I feel at some point I'll be able to keep the house cleaned all the time. For now, I'm happy to be hanging out with him or the kids instead.

My dad did not do laundry or clean the house. His job was to go to work. My mom had a job outside the home and ran the household.

My man, unlike my dad, does dishes and cleans as well as shoveled and mow the lawn. He changed diapers and gave baths. He did so much of what my dad designed as woman's work.

My dad was the fun guy and the disciplinarian. He died before I had a chance to know who he was.

I think our kids will be able to look back and know, without any doubt, that they were loved and cared for by their dad.

I'm really lucky to have this guy by my side.
