About nine months ago a wonderful thing happened...
Campbell's Sweets opened a shop in my hometown.
We have been eating Campbell's ah-maz-ing popcorn for years. A trip to the West Side Market is not complete without a taste and a bag to take home. One day, I discovered a new cupcake place called Grandma Freida's, named for the owner's mother, and they are the best cupcakes in Cleveland. Big, moist, and in a slew of original flavors. My all time favorite is the chai which is now only a seasonal flavor but at least I can get it.
Eventually the named changed to Grandma Campbell's and I put two and two together - we kept buying them. I was able to avoid stopping there as often as I wanted to since their stand is not near the places I frequent. Also, I limited my intake to when the Husband bought them. He hates to go to market because of the crowd but he'd make a special trip when he was craving them. This has kept us away from the dentist and off insulin.
And, then they opened a store within walking distance. Fantastic cupcakes and popcorn are so close!
I took baby girl in there the day it opened and was greeted by a tree filled with cotton candy bags and I thought she was going to lose her mind. Until she saw the candied apples and Oreo dipped in chocolate and painted to look like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, her favorite. I asked her if she wanted one of the Oreos, "no mama! I don't want to eat turtles! I want to watch them."
I have stopped buying their cupcakes. I had, too. The husband will not and will buy them at least twice a school year for my son's class (no wonder why they know him and not me) and I buy a popcorn tin for the teacher to have for snack. Refills of the tin are worth it.
I also love to take Campbell's popcorn whenever we go to someone's home or when we go out of town. Over 25 flavors of popcorn, made in small batches, there is something for everyone. They make great hostess gifts. It's like sharing Cleveland's sweetness with friends and family.
