I wasn't sure I would see I Feel Pretty in theaters until a friend called, on a Wednesday, inviting me to see it. She needed a good laugh and I needed a reminder of how pretty I feel.
While I didn't get knocked on the head when I was in my twenties, I did have a revelation. My high school career was marred by thinking that I was way bigger than I actually was. At some point, I felt confident in myself and felt sexy. It took me through my twenties and helped me get over a bad relationship with grace.
For anyone who has ever felt less than confident, I Feel Pretty is the perfect movie.

Amy Schumer (Trainwreck, Snatched) stars as Renee, a woman who struggles with feelings of insecurity and inadequacy on a daily basis. After suffering a fall she wakes up believing she is suddenly the most beautiful and capable woman on the planet. With this new found confidence she is empowered to live her life fearlessly and flawlessly, but what will happen when she realizes her appearance never changed?
I know this movie got a lot of flack for being unrealistic, tone-deaf, and, well, unfunny. I happen to think that those who are hardest on the movie probably forgot the feelings of self-doubt they may have had at some point in their lives.
I also have to wonder if the naysayers ever felt out of place because they were over a size eight. Sure, many felt the pressure of having to look a certain way. But let's be honest, they were probably on their way to looking camera ready anyway. For the average woman, I can relate to Amy Schumer's character. If she was any "fatter" or "uglier," the movie would not have worked. The average movie goer would not pay to see it.
I loved this movie. And, I appreciated the reminder that we are all beautiful, even when we don't feel pretty.
