My daughter loves watching the Scooby gang solve mysteries. She sees herself in all of the characters. After every episode. she's off to find suspicious activities and expose the bad guy. I am not a fan of the meddling kids. Not as a kid and not now.

Daphne and Velma have their own feature film! The movie is an updated, live-action look at how the crime-solving duo became best friends and solve a mystery. My mystery fan was excited to watch her two favorites in a movie of their own.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release Daphne & Velma on Digital, Blu-ray, and DVD on May 22, 2018

As we settled in to watch the movie, I noticed a string of women's names in the opening credits. Produced by Ashley Tisdale and Jennifer Tisdale’s Blondie Girl Productions, directed by Suzi Yoonessi, one of the writers is a woman, the music and editing were done by women. The movie became a lot more interesting to me.

Besides not being a fan of Scooby Doo and his buddies, the idea of a movie without them seemed weak. As I watched with my kids, it dawned on me that this movie was not made for people in my age group. This is absolutely for a new generation. And, how awesome is it to have women taking the lead. Not only showing how these two unlikely friends teamed up but reimagined with attitude, smarts, and independence.

I had an opportunity to listen in on an interview with Sarah Gilman (ABC's “Last Man Standing”) who plays Velma. She is delightful and sharp. When Ms. Gilman was asked if boys would get anything out of the movie she said, "...it will appeal to boys because it's the same way girls watch movies about boys out there kicking butt. I hope that it can be the other way around and then boys can enjoy the story for what it is. And it's important for boys to also know that a girl can kick butt and girls can also be good at science and math and engineering."

I just adored listening to the young, positive, actress speak about this fun film. Her joy radiated over the phone. And, my kids enjoyed the film. Especially my daughter.
