6 Books I Read Last Month in March

Between Book of the Month and book club, I have been inspired to read. A lot more than I have been reading in years.

I'm up to eleven books, which is five ahead of my goal for the year. Imagine how many books I will read this summer!

6 Books I Read Last Month

The Ocean at the End of the Lake

Neil Gaiman

I loved this book so much. It's a slim book, easy to read, but I wish I took more time to read it.

The narrator returns to his childhood home for a funeral. After the service, he takes a detour to remember a person from his childhood. As he starts to remember, the story takes on a fairytale feel and we meet a crone, a mother, and the maiden he remembers from his childhood.

The story is haunting and beautiful.

The Philosopher's Flight

Tom Miller

I am not really sure how I feel about this book. The Philosopher's Flight is a fantastical novel that blends magic and science. It is very detailed in ways that I would not expect.

The story starts strong. The book looks at what life would be like beyond magic to what life would be like if women were to dominate a field. And, what it would be like if a man tried to break into the field that most consider beyond a man's abilities.

The Marriage of Opposites

Alice Hoffman

This is our current book club selection. And, I am so happy that I read it. In the six hours to Detroit and back.

The heroine in the Marriage of Opposites is strong-willed, independent, and courageous. She lives in a male-dominated world, falls in love, raises a family, and breaks down barriers on her quest for her best life.

A Hundred Thousand Worlds

Bob Proehl

A Hundred Thousand Worlds

It took me two tries to try to get through this book in about two years. It wasn't the story, but the second story in the breaks between chapters. I didn't get how it worked into the story. The fangirl in me loved the cross counrty adventure of mom and kid as she takes him to California.  I wish the focus was more on that relationship, but it was still a worthy read in the end.

Confessions Of An Ugly Stepsister

Gregory Maguire

This was last month's book and very few of the gals liked the book. It was hard to get into at first, but I enjoyed the story of how a morally gray mother takes charge of her unhappy life hoping for something better.

The last few pages of the book wrapped up the story and worth reading the whole book. I think this is a fun read, but not to be taken seriously.

The Power of Vulnerability

Brene Brown
The Power of Vulnerability

I got this as one of my free Audible books and I am super happy. The cost on Amazon as I write this is outrageous! That said, it's so good. Powerful messages and life-changing. Brene Brown is brilliant.

What we don't need in the midst of struggle... Brene Brown
