Holy cow this was a hot weekend! Looking at my facebook feed, I wish I would have taken the kids to the beach on Sunday. A lot of families were out there cooling off, but to be honest, I did not leave my house much on Sunday.
The oldest and I walked to the new, neighborhood coffee shop on the way to get my youngest from a sleepover. And, I went right back to laying in front of our air conditioner binge-watching Netflix.
Saturday, the kids and I ventured out with family friends to Cleveland's Ingenuity Festival.
The Ingenuity Festival is a collaboration featuring hands-on maker activities, interactive exhibits, music, dance, and artists selling their wares. We have been going nearly every year for the last thirteen years.
Two exhibits stood out to me. The first was Shooting without Bullets. Shooting Without Bullets started with Amanda King who created an arts-based program as an outlet for black and brown kids. It developed into a pop-up art show featuring the kids' work.
Nelson Morris' 1000 Faces is comprised of facial casts of Clevelanders began two years ago.
My son is all about the technology, architecture, and tire swing.
And, my daughter is for the hands-on everything...
For all of us, it means time spent together.
I had every intention of returning in the evening, but that autumn sun wore our asses out! I can't get over the heat this past weekend.
We skipped Ingenuity Fest last year. But the year before was so cold. It was the last year that it was held on the lake downtown. It was also the first week of October. The cold wind whipping off the lake left me breathless more than once.
The cool part was all of the exhibits were in shipping containers.
I think I'd rather take the heat over the cold any day. And, just like the festivals improves with age, so do kids.
