Planning a trip is stressful. Agreeing on a destination and a budget. Securing a place to stay and how to get there. And, what you will do when you arrive. Stress-ful!

For our final summer adventure, we are heading to Washington D.C. for the weekend. What I wouldn’t give to snap my fingers to plan this trip. Luckily, planning our upcoming trip has been at my fingertips. With the $49.88 PLUS Plan from Walmart Family Mobile, powered by T-Mobile - I planned our trip poolside. I kid you not.

Unlimited Talk, Text, & Data which includes up to 15GB of 4G LTE † then 2G* is a giant leap up from what I had before. I’ve been leery about increasing my data plan due to cost. I can get by fine with my smaller data plan. Until I got a taste of the larger data plan. The best part is, I’m not paying that much more for Walmart Family Mobile on T-Mobile's nationwide 4G LTE † network. Since my son has Walmart Family Mobile we get a discount for extra lines.

More data, budget friendly, and the $49.88 PLUS Plan from Walmart Family Mobile includes a free VUDU movie rental credit (valued at $7.00) each time I renew service.

Upgrading was easy. I picked my phone, picked my plan, and activated it from the comfort of my front porch. No activation fees. No late charges. More data (on most plans). Walmart has the best pricing in no contract Wireless plans and the simplest to activate.

I used three apps to plan our trip and downloaded extra apps to use while we are in D.C. Some of the apps are specific to D.C., but I'm confident there would be similar ones anywhere you plan to travel.

6 Travel Apps Essential for Your Next Adventure by Train

Amtrak

When planning our trip to Washington D.C. we decided to throw caution to the wind and hit the rails. We are traveling by Amtrak. Amtrak’s app is easy to use and to book seats on a train. And, if we decided to upgrade to a Family Bedroom or Superliner Roomette, we can with a few swipes of a finger.

An added bonus of this app is e-Tickets. We have an option to print tickets as a back-up or use the E-Ticket.

Tripadvisor

Tripadvisor’s app is quite pretty in its simplicity. I tried several other apps and found that Tripadvisor was the best for what I need.

Tripadvisor has the ability to find the best hotel room or flight price. And, can find great prices on fun things to do while in town - this app has it all.

While I didn’t plan a flight, I was able to book a hotel room. I found that the sightseeing deals were comparable to competitors without having to download another app.

I also dig the restaurant finder on this app. It allows me to see real reviews for restaurants in the area without having to download more apps.

Google Trips

This app is as gorgeous as it is intuitive. As long as I use my Gmail address, Google will populate my reservations in the app to see at a glance.

The kids created ‘Day Plans’ by themselves based on locations they found in ‘Things to Do.' And, I can download the itinerary to share with the family.

Google Trips also has a ‘Need to Know’ section with information about hospitals in the area, pharmacies, shopping areas, and even internet. There is also a section on money for those traveling from (or to) abroad and local tipping customs.

Hotels.com

Finding a hotel via Tripadvisor is the way to go. Collecting rewards and accessing my reservation makes this app essential.

Museum Apps

I downloaded the Smithsonian app as well as the National Mall app to assist us as we explore the city. I did it early so the kids can check out the apps and get them excited about the trip.

Every major museum has an app to use. Even, our Cleveland Museum of Art has a fantastic app to help navigate the museum.

Bus and Rail Apps

Having been to DC before, we are confident using public transportation. I download the Metro app everytime I go to help navigate and give route times.

The first time I went to D.C., I ordered Metro cards prefilled in anticipation of the trip. It made traveling by public transportation so much simpler to just swipe and get on. I recommend this for any city you plan on using public transport.

Uber, Lyft, and Taxi apps

Finding a taxi in D.C.is easy. Having the D.C.Taxi Rider app allows me to pay for my trip as well as request a pickup. It’s as convenient to use as Uber.

I have the taxi app and Uber so I have options. And, peace of mind if we need to travel by car.

Our summer adventure got a whole lot better thanks to Walmart Family Mobile.
