Catching Up on the Present with the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and @Netflix #streamteam

But females are strong as hell. Unbreakable #streamteam

As part of the Netflix #StreamTeam, I received product to facilitate this post. I have not received monetary compensation and opinions are my own.

I remember a time when I was hip. I ran a nightclub and drank after hours, usually for free. I knew what the hottest new songs were and saw all of the Oscar contenders at. the. theater. on. opening. night.

And, then life changed. One minute I was drinking manhattans at a trendy bar and the next I was begging for an epidural as my body was being torn in two.

Now life is all about the car that is in the shop and that enormous bill will need to be paid along with all the other bills still waiting their turn. Instead of bar hoping, I'm hoping from the preschool, the elementary school, the doctor, the dentist, and to work. My dryer is making funny noises and does not dry in one go around anymore plus the laundry is piling up. On top of all that - our bed broke and I may have overheard the little one tell her friend that, "mommy and daddy really need to stop jumping on their bed!" I guess if her friends share this tidbit I'll be the envy at the PTA meeting?

Why can't we catch a break! Or a vacation, maybe on a deserted island, or a fallout shelter, with no phones or contact with the outside world.

Of course, nothing is really so horrible that hiding in a fallout shelter would be an option, but it does feel like we have been living in one the last ten years. And, despite all of the bad things, there are so many more good things happening, and now that our kids are a little older it is easier to do adult things again.

Now I just have to figure out what those adult things include these days. Maybe, having candy for dinner?

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is the new original comedy on Netflix from the brilliant Tina Fey and chronicles the adventures of Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) who decides to reclaim her life and start over in New York City after living in a cult for fifteen years, which was in an underground bunker, away from the world. She quickly finds a new job as a nanny (working for 30 Rock's Jane Krakowski), a new roommate (Tituss Burgess, 30 Rock), and a new beginning in the Big Apple.

That was the fanciest sentence I ever heard and I use to watch Fraiser! #streamteam #unbreakable

Catching up on the present is a very familiar feeling for me. Just like Kimmy has to learn about the present and catch up to the times, I feel like the Hubs and I are playing catch up too. Sure, we don't have quite the disadvantage, I do know how to use a smart phone and the Hubs just got on Facebook but we are just not as hip as we once were and that's okay.

And, while we are not being hip we'll be binge watching the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix.

Do you ever feel like you are catching up on the present?
