4 More Books to Read Right Now

I am so very close to my goal of 40 books before 40!

I o-n-l-y have fourteen books or so to go before November.  I am not sure how I feel about that number but according to goodreads.com I am four a head of schedule.  Woot!

I have become addicted to Kindle First Reads.  I mean seriously addicted.  I can't wait to see the authors they pick and the books to pick from but you only get one so if you pick the crap one - you are stuck.  This is part of the Amazon Prime membership.  Of course now they have unlimited reading, something or other for 10 bucks a month but I am not sure I read enough for that...

I've been lucky for the most part.  In fact, The Source is the second book in a trilogy that I found through first reads and reviewed early in the summer.  Artful was my pick for June.  I just started reading my July pick, Inamorata by Megan Chance, and it is almost August!  What can I say, not all books can be page turners.

Warm Bodies

I adore Warm Bodies the movie so of course I had to read the book and I have to say - I like the movie more. Yes, this book has been out for a few years but it so good especially if you like a good zombie story and let's face it - who doesn't?

I am not saying that I did not enjoy the girl meets zombie, Romeo and Juliet novel, it was still fantastic! Tragic with moments of humor and sweetness and a love story.  But, the movie grabbed me in a way the book did not.

I still highly recommend the book and would even go so far as to say that you should think of the book and the movie as two separate stories even though they are fairly close but the ending is so very different and some interesting sub-plots were left out of the movie for instance R had a zombie wife!

Flat Out Love

Flat Out Love is an easy summer read.  A freshman, new to Boston, finds her way in to the home of her mom's college roommate because of a craigslist scam and she becomes part of the family on a mission to try out her budding psychologist side of her personality by trying to fix the daughter/sister.  It is a sweet, touching story on the surface but goes deeper into family issues and how some families deal with loss.

It is a YA book but I really enjoyed getting to know the characters, trying to figure out the twist, and may even read the follow up books written in the perspective of the other characters.

The Source

This is the second book in the Witching Savannah series and I really enjoyed The Line which was a Kindle First Reads.  The Source starts off not long after the first book ending with Mercy, the main character, pregnant and learning to manage her new found magic.  Mercy's focus is on finding her banished sister when she is side tracked by her fiancee's long lost uncle's return followed by her presumed dead mother's secret arrival in her life, because Mercy does not have enough heartbreak and drama in her life.

This was a page turner and again, I was lost in the south and swept up by the fantasy.  Loved it!

Artful: A Novel

I was taken in by the description of Artful as a choice in for First Reads in June and picked this because who does not want to read about Oliver Twist's Artful Dodger as a vampire hunter but, the author tried so hard to stay true to writing like Dickens that it really turned me off.

The idea of Dodger saving the future Queen and all of England is pretty fantastic and worth getting through the first four chapters to get to the heart of the action and the start of the author's true voice.

I'm always on the look out for something good!  What do you suggest?
