Winter to me means staying inside and not going out unless I have to leave my house. Well, that might be a slight exaggeration. I do need to go to work after all but as far as winter activities go – inside only.
Finding inside only activities for my kids to do is a challenge because I work full time and my specialty is not early childhood education. In fact, until my kids were born I avoided kids like the plague. Now of course, I can’t escape the little rug rats even if I wanted to go to the bathroom and inside only activities has limits for those who are creatively challenged or just burnt out.
Sure I can push them out into the snow (and I do) but with little kids the max time spent playing out there is maybe 30 minutes on a good day. Getting them ready to face the winter winds and getting them out of their winter gear takes more time than they are actually outside playing. Once inside, I’m still stuck with two bored kids and cabin fever takes hold of them shortly after they are defrosted. That’s when the house becomes their playground, fights ensue and there is a lot of crying, by me.
There is hope – BabbaBox. Watching the video from creator Jessica Kim made me feel like I could do a well-rounded, age appropriate and educational activity with my kids and at a reasonable price.
